Frequently Asked Questions

The First Session: A Vibe Check
Your first 50-minute session is really about us getting to know each other. There’s no "couch" and certainly no pressure to have it all figured out.

We’ll chat about what’s been on your mind lately and what prompted you to reach out. We might touch on a bit of your background so I can get the full picture, and you can ask me anything you like.

If We Click
If we decide we’re a good fit, we’ll start untangling the things that are holding you back, exploring your thoughts, how you react to pressure, or those stubborn habits that feel like they’re on autopilot.

We’ll work on the essentials: mental clarity, relationship boundaries, and shifting your headspace so you actually feel like yourself again.

Finding the Right Fit
The most important thing is that you feel comfortable. If for some reason we aren’t the perfect match, I have a trusted network of other specialists through Slipstream Therapy that I can refer you to. Your progress is the priority.

The Sessions

All sessions are 50 minutes and the investment is $130.

Your Schedule, Your Choice
While many people opt for weekly or fortnightly check-ins, I know life in Sydney (or on the road) isn't always predictable. I offer regular, recurring slots if you want that consistency, but I also offer ad-hoc/single sessions for when you just need a one off reset. There’s no lock in; we work with what fits your life right now.

The Timeline
I usually suggest starting with a block of 6–8 sessions. This gives us enough time to get some momentum and see real change. After that, we’ll reassess together.

For some, a few sessions are enough to get back on track; for others, therapy becomes a trusted, long term space to navigate deeper life shifts as they come up. We’ll keep the conversation about "how many" open and honest so it always feels right for you.

Short answer: Everyone.

There is no "type." Therapy isn't just for people in a crisis; it’s for anyone who wants to grow, get clear, and live a bit more intentionally.

Whether you’re a Maroubra or Coogee local who’s been here forever or an expat just trying to find your feet, whatever your culture, gender, sexual orientation, or career path, you are welcome here.

We see people from all walks of life who are simply ready to stop just 'getting through' the day and start actually thriving."

Your story is unique, and this is a safe, open space to tell it.

I am committed to keeping your confidence.
Trust is the foundation of everything we do here. Your sessions are private, with only a few essential exceptions, specifically, my responsibility to ensure that you and those around you stay safe.

Global Standards
I uphold the ethical framework of the British Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP). This means my practice is held to a high international standard of integrity, whether we are meeting in person in Maroubra or online from the UK.

You can read more about my commitment to your trust and confidentiality below.

In short: No.
Counselling is a deeply personal experience, and we believe getting support should be as simple as possible. Slipstream Therapy offers a direct "contact and book" system, meaning there is no need for a GP referral or a formal mental health plan to get started.

How it Works
As soon as you reach out, we’ll set up a free 10 minute chat to talk about what’s going on for you. If we feel like the right fit for your needs, we’ll offer you the first available appointment that works for your schedule.

No waiting rooms, no complex paperwork. Just a conversation.

That is completely normal.
Taking the first step to ask for help is often the hardest part of the entire process. If you’re feeling hesitant or a bit daunted, you aren’t alone, most people feel exactly the same way before their first session.

No Judgment, Just Support
Counsellors are real people who are trained to listen without an agenda. We lead with empathy and kindness, and our only goal is to help you figure out what’s right for you. There is no "wrong" thing to say, and you don’t need to have a polished story ready before you arrive.

You’re in Control
This is your space, which means you’re in the driver’s seat. You can start, pause, or stop at any point. It’s perfectly okay to feel uncertain and still give it a try, think of it as a low pressure "vibe check" to see if this is the support you’ve been looking for..

The Short Answer: No, and here’s why that’s often a win for you.
In Australia, the Medicare Mental Health Plan only covers Social Workers and Psychologists. Because of this, we keep our session fees affordable and accessible to reflect the out of pocket reality.

The Price Match
Most people find that our flat fee of $130 is actually the same or often lower than the "gap" payment you’d be left with after a Medicare rebate for a Psychologist in the Eastern Suburbs. You get high quality support without the premium price tag or the paperwork.

The Benefit of Direct Care
By working directly with us (without a GP referral), your sessions stay completely private. There is no "mental health diagnosis" added to your permanent medical record, which many of our clients prefer for work or visa reasons.

Gold Standard
While we aren't under Medicare, we are fully insured and we are accredited by the British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP). This is the international gold standard of ethics and care, ensuring you get world class support right here in Maroubra or online.
